Little Foxes’ Curriculum
Children’s joy and happiness is a big part of their learning. At Little Foxes, we encourage them to have fun as a part of their education, with child-led activities which are adapted to their abilities and interests.
Learning & Development
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) describes the time in your child’s life between birth and age 5. It is a very important stage, as it helps your child get ready for school as well as preparing them for their future learning and successes.
From the day your child is born up until the age of 5, their early years experience should be happy, active, exciting, fun and secure; and support their development, care and learning needs.
The framework was revised to make it clearer and easier to use, with more focus on the things that matter the most. This framework also has a greater emphasis on your role in helping your child develop.
Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first:
Communication and language
Physical Development
Personal, social and emotional development.
These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive arts and design
These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. Our staff who are teaching and supporting your child will make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. This is a little bit like a curriculum in primary schools, but it’s suitable for very young children and it’s designed to be really flexible so that staff can follow your child’s unique needs and interests.
Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.
Keeping You Updated
Progress checks and profiles when your child is 2. Our team will give you a written summary of how your child is progressing against the 3 prime areas of learning.
Communication and language
Physical Development
Personal, social and emotional development.
This is called the progress check at age 2 It highlights areas where your child is progressing well and anywhere they might need some extra help or support.
Transition To School
It’s a huge progression moving from nursery to school and we want to ensure that this is as hassle free as possible for you and your child.
We work closely with the local schools and the extended community throughout your child’s time with us to ensure we make that transition as smooth as possible when the time comes.
Please feel free to ask a member of staff for a copy of our Transition to School policy.
